I Believe - Does God Love Me?

I had a discussion with my Mother the other day and being she is 82 years old, she is from the old school. She doesn't seem to understand that there is NO right or wrong life pathways. This woman professes to be a born again christian and somehow has come upon the notion that God only loves her and those that agree with her. She is of the opinion that she, and only those that believe exactly as she does, are going to go to heaven. When I ask her if she believes that God is all about love, she whole heartedly agrees - but only as long as the person has taken Jesus as their personal savior. If you haven't taken the Lord as your savior, you are doomed to live in hell for eternity. So, I then made the point that the world and thousands of people were born long before Jesus Christ came along and they were not able to accept Him as their personal savior, so the question arises - Are they doomed to live in hell for eternity also? Her answer astounded me! She quoted from the Bible that 'Many are called, but few are chosen' (Matthew 22 v.14). Now, my guess is 'that is a little out of context' but she corrected me and told me that each verse is complete unto itself. Now if you follow that type of thinking, it is no wonder that so much of our history has been scarred by religious wars. How sad is that?
